Blow test.<\/strong>\r\nBlow test? Erm. Most people won\u2019t have heard of it.<\/p>\r\n The term blower door test \u2013 to give it its proper name \u2013 goes some way to explaining what it is. Measuring the pressure differential determines the airtightness of a building. The process is used to detect leakage in the building envelope and to determine the air exchange rate.<\/p>\r\n Who needs this?<\/strong>\r\nThe test is supposed to locate any defects in the building envelope at an early stage.<\/p>\r\n What does the measuring engineer do?<\/strong>\r\nFor the pressure test, a calibrated electronic fan is placed in an open exterior door (entrance or balcony door) or window. A pressure differential of 50 Pa (pascal) is then built up. The blower builds up this pressure and at the same time determines the air changes per hour. The ratio between this volume and the building\u2019s volume is the measurement of the tightness.<\/p>\r\n What values are expected?<\/strong>\r\nTypical air exchange rates resulting from the building tightness measurement are: 4 to 12 h\u22121 for leaky old buildings; 3 to 7 h\u22121 for new buildings without special attention; 1 to 2 h\u22121 for low-energy buildings and 0.1 to 0.6 h\u22121 for passive houses. Airtightness is particularly important in passive houses which is why an upper limit of 0.6 h\u22121 is stipulated (measured at 50 Pa).<\/p>\r\n Why is our management in a good mood despite having to get up at 6am on Sunday?<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Our new MobiMedia building passed this test with flying colours.<\/p>\r\n Hannes Rambold, Board Member of MobiMedia AG: \u201cWe have achieved a value of 0.5.
